Yusuff Ali – The Indian Tycoon Converts Scotland Yard into a Luxury Hotel

Scotland Yard, the name synonymous with detection of crime, the facade of which is etched in the memories of many generations, by the end of this year will be one of the most luxurious 5-star hotels. Let’s for once try and estimate the luxury it will offer with each night here costing a whopping Rs 75 lac per night.

All the luxuries are being offered by an Indian multi-billionaire from Kerala, Yusuff Ali, who has shelled as much as 75 million pounds to revamp it. Lulu Group, chaired by Ali, bought the rather mysterious and famous building in 2015 for around 110 million pounds!

Once a home to Britain’s Metropolitan Police Service, this building will now offer 150 bedrooms and 11 luxury suites. A signature restaurant with bars, gym, corporate meeting rooms & halls, banquet and library. The interiors, they say, easily remind of the property’s military past and suit the taste of ultra-rich. Now that it was a jail once, some of the rooms are sure to have been prisoner cells too. Some other sources have also said that Lulu Group has designed some of the rooms to over Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. What more could add to the luxury!

Everything said, counting in the luxury, the essence of history and breathtaking views that it is set to offer, this becomes an example of the growth Indians are marking across the world. The UK, especially the UK real-estate market, is turning out to be a huge interest source of Indian investments, even as the pound takes a dip continuously.

With names like Surinder Arora, Jasminder Singh, Sant Sigh Chatwal, Joginder Sanger, already ruling the luxury hotels in the most prominent regions of the UK, Yusuff Ali has become one of the jewels of South India to rule the industry now. Ali has already been sweeping the world with his Lulu Group’s success. And to count, this man’s family once hardly had enough to keep him well-fed. Learning business tactics of business from his grandfather, he started working really young. Today, when he is counted in one of the richest Indians, he is also counted among the biggest philanthropists, one who never let any needy go empty handed.

The secret of his success? Honesty, sincerity, charity, hard-work, he says. But isn’t that what most of us do (uhmmm or try to do) and believe in. There has to be something more! What? Well, trying to know Yusuff Ali better, I tried reading Jewels of South India by a publisher in Jaipur, Maneesh Media, I chanced upon many others, who have sweated it out to find their path to success. I realize that each one of these highly successful people have had their families supporting them, while they managed to find time for their families; the other essentials of success remaining the same.
